Hyperpigmentation occurs when excess melanin leads to darkened areas on the skin, which can vary in size.
Melanin protects skin cells and their DNA by absorbing the sun’s ultraviolet rays (UVR). Generally, darker skin types are more prone to hyperpigmentation because they naturally produce melanin more efficiently as a defense mechanism.
Dr Sumi specialises in treating patients with darker skin types and is experienced in addressing various pigmentation issues, including melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and sun damage

The goals of treatment include:
Decreasing sebaceous gland activity
Decreasing bacteria level
Correcting abnormal keratinisation
Reducing inflammation
It is important to bear in mind that it can take 3-6months for improvements to be seen.

Skin ageing results from biological changes that occur over time.
As we age, the skin's barrier function diminishes, leading to thinner, more sensitive, and often dehydrated skin.
The turnover of skin cells slows down with age, causing a rough and uneven texture, which can be a concern for many.
Sun exposure can exacerbate these signs and worsen pigmentation changes associated with ageing.
In addition to the outer layer of skin ageing, we also lose collagen and elastin, and our fat layers diminish. This can make the skin appear dull, sagging, and lead to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterized by facial flushing, redness, visible blood vessels (telangiectasias), and sometimes blemishes.
The initial sign of rosacea may be intermittent redness that varies in intensity.
It is most commonly seen in fair-skinned individuals, typically between the ages of 30 and 50, and generally affects the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin. However, in skin of colour (melanin rich skin) it is often misdiagnosed.
While rosacea is more common in women, it can be more severe in men.
Although this condition cannot be completely cured, its symptoms can be managed with a combination of at-home and in-clinic treatments.
